When home game systems became powerful enough to display 16-bit to 32-bit graphics, they approached the level of graphics in arcade games. Generally, gamers would wait for arcade games to get console ports rather than actually
playing them at arcades.
In the early to mid 1990s, arcades had a small resurgence with games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and NBA Jam, but they have ultimately become obsolete. Arcade games are only collector's items now, except for a few modernized versions such as Dance Dance Revolution.
